Jay Rodriguez bending back while playing tenor saxophoneGrammy nominated music veteran reed player . innovator -Jay Rodriguez has been an important artist in the NYC’s sonic and creative tapestry. His pantheon of important musical contributions has been a part of the NYC music scene as a composer, arranger, and soloist for the past 30 years. He has brought his mastery and musical experiences to many genres and generations. He is a co-founder of NYC’s Groove Collective.

He has worked with  iconic creators ,writer/words smiths – Amiri Baraka , Sekou Sundiata, Ntozake Shange, Carl Hancock Rux , Carrie Mae Weems, Music Legends-  Celia Cruz, Ray Barretto, Randy Brecker, Eddie Palmieri, the Gil Evans Band, Mike Clark, Giovanni Hidalgo, Vernon Reid, Marshall Allen, Chucho Valdez, Chico and Arturo O’Farrill, Roy Nathanson, Wil Calhoun, Roy Hargrove, Bernie Worrell, Medeski, Martin and Wood, The Wu- Tang Clan, Guru’s Jazzmatazz ,David Murray, David Krakauer, the Roots, Prince/Miles Davis, Jason Miles, Teruo Nakamura, The Mingus Big Band, Miley Cyrus, Mike Snow and with iconic music producers Andrew Wyatt, and Gary Katz among many. Currently, he is part of iconic guitarist Marc Ribot’s projects, Nona Hendryx, Craig Harris Brown Butterfly and his own solo works including his solo release “Your Sound” recorded live at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola @JALC. Recently recorded for Craig Harris’s score for film director Shaka King’s “Judas and the Black Messiah”

Currently Jay is Iconic composer/ trombonist Craig Harris’s first call on all reeds and woodwinds.

He is a member of Funk Soul Iconic trombonist and arranger Fred Wesley and the New JB’s.
