Danny Haengil Larson

Danny Haengil Larsen (composer and lyricist) graduated from NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program where he now teaches, and where he met his collaborator, Michelle Elliott. They received the Richard Rodgers Development Award and Daryl Roth Award for their first musical THE YELLOW WOOD, which was presented at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2007 (directed by BD Wong) for which he won the award for Best Music. They received the 2011 Jonathan Larson Award and the Kleban Prize for their second musical CLOAKED. They created and produced an award-nominated musical web series, THE HINTERLANDS, which tackles the issues of suicide by gay youth which can be viewed at HinterlandsTheMusical.com. Their musical HART ISLAND received a developmental workshop production at The Village Theatre this past summer. Danny is also working on a new musical The Pain In My Gay-Mormon, Half-Korean Ass which explores the combative relationship between religion, sexuality, and race, and the emotional, mental, and physiological effects that those things can have on a person’s development. Besides composing, Danny works as a professional orchestrator.
